2021 Summer Heat and Fire Safety
6/24/2021 (Permalink)
During the Spring and Summer months, the temperature outside begins to rise and, in certain parts of the country, heatwaves begin to appear more commonly and can even become unrelenting. This opens you and your property up to new risks from the increased heat. Here are some tips you can use to combat the unrelenting heat this Summer!
1). Think about covering your windows to block heat from direct sunlight. This can help cool down the room.
2). Try to use fans more strategically, don't just place them and forget them. Ceiling fans should rotate counter-clockwise to be most effective at moving the air within the room.
3). Try cooking with smaller appliances like a slow-cooker or a tabletop grill. This can help minimize the heat added to your home when cooking food.
4). If you know that you have elderly neighbors and are able to, you should check on them every so often to ensure they're okay. Summer heatwaves leave the elderly in a tough spot and are oftentimes much more dangerous for them than you during them.
All of these things could potentially lead to fire damage in your home as well. All it takes is someone not paying attention and a simple spark could turn into a full-blown fire! Make sure that you remember SERVPRO is always here to help!
